TOPIC: Tokens for creative use/roleplaying/MacGyvering

Tokens for creative use/roleplaying/MacGyvering 2 weeks 13 hours ago #1

Having reached the point where further stats/damage buffs are getting increasingly costly (I've almost got enough loot to transmute into an Ashenne's), I'm looking for simple tokens that can make a difference by creative use/roleplaying/MacGyvering rather than by raw power.

Currently I have two:

Scroll: Rain shower. Cast as a Free Action using the Tome of Useful Scrolls, rain can outline invisible foes for the party, let the party see which of the Mirror Images is splashing the water on the ground, take the edge off foes' fire attacks, etc.

Ring of Truth: Wearer is unable to tell a lie. I carry one in my pocket (not equipped), just in case I can ask an NPC to take turns with me wearing it while we talk.

Any suggestions for others?

For role play purposes things that let you talk to the dead sometimes lead to fun DM improv in rooms with skeletons etc.

Cencer of Sacrifice lets you remove curses.

“Gear” tokens (10 foot pole, mirror, etc.) can sometimes be used with DM improv, although as years go by I feel this has diminished in order to give groups a more consistent experience.

Water walking and feather fall used to be put on a lot of tokens and are 100% guaranteed to never have any function in the dungeon lol…

I second the recommendation to outfit yourself with various gear tokens. For instance, I'm not sure how they are currently allowed, but historically we've had a lot of luck using Steel or Silver Mirrors to protect against petrifying gaze monsters like Medusa's.
